Trinkets

Test Run - Creature CU Watermark

There’s something beautiful to me about a workspace full of nuts, bolts, rods, fasteners, and gears. Even as a kid I wouldn’t leave the house without at least one small gear or ball bearing, and I was always on the lookout for things to add to my collection.

I still do that, except instead of Long Island I now walk the streets of San Francisco on the lookout for dead paper shredders, printers and VCRs like some sort of steam punk mad scientist, gutting dead electronics to create whatever my crazy mind envisions.

Seeing once useful devices, once marvels of technology that now lie scattered on the sidewalks homeless makes me wonder if robots will one day get that same treatment. I wonder if one day I will find one lying on the side of the street accompanied by trash while people walk by it not paying any mind.

Speaking of robots, I would be highly disappointed if all robots in the future looked human. I feel like robotics opens up great opportunity to spruce things up. I want robots that look like hobbits, robots that look like Mario, robots that look like Pokemon, or one that looks like Joe Pesci! How awesome would it be to have a Joe Pesci robot? No one would fuck with you if if you had a Joe Pesci robot.

The following photos are from a project called Trinkets. We shot these on film, and did not expect they were going to turn out this good. I’m editing more photos from the shoot and will be releasing more footage in the coming weeks. I’d like to thank Sky Tallone for shooting these beautiful photos!

All of The Robots

I’ve been spending a lot of time in the country these days, which is nice. I’ve lived in San Francisco for almost ten years and while I love the city, it is nice to see what else the great state of California has to offer. Turns out a lot of it is fields full of cows, grapes and such, but I’m not complaining, it’s been relaxing getting away from the city, although I’ve lived in the country now long enough to no longer find deer cute. They’re everywhere, they eat your crops, they just stand in the middle of the road and they laugh at your fences while they swiftly jump right over, they’re beautiful way of saying fuck your fence.

Also, I may not be hearing the crazy homeless people outside my San Francisco apartment, but there are all kinds of crazy sounds going on at night. There are times when I swear the Coyotes are right outside my window, and then there’s this crazy rooster who seems to oversleep because I always hear him around noon fifteen.

At first I found myself getting re acquainted with cable television, but theres a lot of crap on t.v. I don’t necessarily think this has changed from when I was a kid, I just don’t have the same love for television I once did. There are so many reality shows out there, I was watching one the other day called Addiction; you know, the show where people get cornered by their loved ones and try to get em help? I don’t have a problem with the premise of the show, I’m sure people have been helped by the show— but when you have an episode about someone addicted to eating laundry detergent that’s when you need to call it a day. You’re not addicted to eating laundry detergent Sally, you’re crazy.

Now in San Francisco I typically find things like VCRs and Paper shredders, so the parts I’m used to working with are usually small. Little ball bearings, screws, rods etc. The things I’m finding now are considerably bigger. Like huge gears and industrial metals, and so I’m finding myself accumulating a literal ton of stuff, and out of fear of becoming a case on Hoarders, (or my girlfriend staging an intervention) I decided the time I would otherwise be using to watch television could be better used making things. So I have created this website, All of the Robots, to show off my creations to the and hopefully inspire others along the way.
